Gleaning!
I had never heard of gleaning until I got to Whitman- but it is such a cool idea. Once a farmer stops harvesting because it is no longer profitable, he or she lets volunteers come in and pick whatever is left. This produce then is donated to a food bank of some sorts- the corn we picked was to be distributed throughout the Walla Walla area. Basically, this is awesome and keeps food from going to waste. And it was a beautiful day, so beautiful photos were a must!

Ran my first half marathon!
The Walla Walla Marathon! Did well, ran it in 2 hours and 1 min (way faster than I had anticipated) and got second in my age group! Got a free wine glass for it.

Claude Steele!
All Whitman first years were required to read Claude Steele's text, Whistling Vivaldi. I got the opportunity to photograph the lecture Dr. Steele gave last night. New photography opportunity: working with the Whitman Communication's department. Wahoo!

Dunham Winery & Vineyards
We were supposed to go to the Hanford Nuclear Plant today for Environmental Studies, but because of the government shutdown, no such luck. But, we did get to go to a winery and a vineyard and learn about not only the process of creating wine, but also the ways in which Dunham Winery is working towards going "green."
